I wish that was true. These drugs use a chemical known as escitalopram which is a type of SSRI. These are the serotonin reuptake inhibitors which help to increase the action of serotonin which is a key neurotransmitter which governs our good mood or lack of it. That is why this chemical is so often used to make an anxiety drug.

Side effects. The first thing we have to be aware of is that some patients have few or no side effects. Others tend to rely too much on them and they can be habit forming. Side effects can range from appetite problems, loss of libido, and wild dreams. It is dangerous to go off this type of drug 'cold turkey' because withdrawal symptoms can be debilitating.

What are benzodiazepines? Some anxiety medications use benzodiazepines such as clonazepam and lorazepam and are known by their brand names such as Xanax and Ativan. These are usually prescribed for severe anxiety such as panic attacks. Side effects from this type of anxiety drug can range from confusion to memory problems and there is an increased risk of falling.

Is there an anxiety cure? The second fact we should be aware of is that these anxiety medications are not a cure. Patients have noted that they have to stay on them for a very long time as they just seem to keep symptoms at bay but they are certainly not a definitive answer to the problem. The key to this mental disorder is to identify the underlying cause and ensure that lifestyle changes can be put into practice.

Are lifestyle changes better than an anxiety drug? Meditation, yoga, exercise, less stress and a proper diet plus a good night's sleep can often help to lessen symptoms. At the same time, these changes can help the patient to address the underlying cause and therefore develop strategies to cope with it.

Is a herbal remedy the answer? The third thing we need to be aware of is that if we want to avoid some rather nasty side effects we may well have to look elsewhere. A herbal remedy for this condition may well be the alternative to anxiety medications. An exercise designed to lead to better understanding and self awareness. Without the ability to think clearly, nor an intensity of feeling and emotion, how can you hope to awaken you inner powers, and abilities. How can there be poise, alertness, how can there be an awareness and awakening. Life becomes mundane, futile, boring, and worthless. Through the practice of Yoga and Meditation you will sharpen your mind to razor like perfection. Let Yoga Awakening show you how!

Through the practice of Yoga and Meditation you will find out why you think in certain ways. Find out why you feel certain things, have certain emotions. Don't try to alter or analyze these thoughts and emotions. Just accept them. Understand them. Through understanding, there will come a new clarity and intensity to your life.

Find out what motivates you. What are you likes and dislikes? What brings you happiness, joy and satisfaction? What brings you pain, suffering and displeasure?

Although you can find these motives through self analysis, this is only the first step, not the solution. The comprehension still can not be real or complete. We still can not achieve total understanding. It will be real only when there is an intense awareness, in the moment these actions and feelings occur. Then you will see there relevance and extraordinary subtlety, their fine delicacy.

This all occurs when you are able to forgo the dualities you create in life. The "I must", or "I must not". The "I must have this" or "I must not have this". "I want to achieve this", "I want to change this". In this compulsion you will never be totally observant of the swift wandering and perversion of thought.

Most of us have been bound and crippled by our past. By our education process. By our traditions and beliefs, to think in these limiting ways. If you choose to keep these mental boundaries intact, be aware that your ability to think will also be limited to these constraining boundaries. You will never be able to expand your consciousness beyond these limitations and boundaries. Effectively you have imprisoned your consciousness.

So become aware of your mind. It's must haves and must have nots'. With this awareness, will come the ability to capture even your swiftest thoughts in the moment they occur. In this awareness will come a new awakening of consciousness and intelligence that you have never experienced before. This is what you will find out when you practice Yoga and Meditation. This is the legacy of Yoga and Meditation!

About the Author

For over 35 years I have researched and practiced both the physical and mental aspects of Yoga and Meditation. I am committed to helping people find relief from common psychological disorders like fear, stress and anxiety through the use of Yoga and Meditation. Enjoy a FREE Gift: a guided meditation tour down the "Lazy River" the mystical land of deep relaxation and tranquility. Today let's try looking at this issue from a different perspective. The Environment. Some of you may relate better or be more comfortable addressing the issue in this way. Let's discuss how our environment effects our mental thought processes and our lives and how yoga and meditation can help us deal with these issues. Let Yoga Awakening show you the way!

First let's define what we mean by the environment. This is everything that one encounters that is external to them. This encompasses the natural environment, the mountains, lakes, streams, animals, etc. But of greater importance to our discussion, it also encompasses, the other people in your lives, and the relationships that exist with these people. It includes all of the economic, political, religious and cultural circumstances that one encounters during his or her life.

The questions posed are, "How does the environment effect our mental thought processes and our lives and how can yoga and meditation help"?

From the moment we are born, even before birth, we are all in a constant struggle with the environment to achieve physical safety and security. As babies, we learn to cry to alert our parents, that we need something. As children, we learn to use our eyes, put on a certain facial expression, or alter the tone of our voice, etc. to entice others to act in a certain way. We attempt to control the other, and as a consequence our environment, to attain what we want so that we may be secure and safe. As young adults we learn to dress and act in certain ways to attain friendships and to attract a mate. Again, we control the environment to get what we need and want. We do this all of our lives. This is all fairly obvious, isn't it?

In the process of attempting to control the environment to attain what we believe will bring about safety and security, and pleasure and happiness for us, we develop an ego. The "I" wants and desires pleasure and happiness for itself and finds countless ways to influence the environment to attain what it wants. We spend our entire lives, countless hours, immeasurable effort, developing and fine tuning this "I" in an attempt to get what we want. To get our way. We attempt to control others, exert our will over others for primarily selfish reasons, in search of our own security and comfort. You will need to be very honest with your self to see this.

The actions necessary to develop the "I", create an ever moving and changing environment because everyone is doing the same thing in their own little ways. Everyone is motivated by the self, "I" to bring about their own security, safety and comfort. So you exert your influence on another, they process your actions, realize the manipulation, and react differently the next time you meet by responding to your manipulation. They have changed and certainly you have changed as well. So we adapt, always fine tuning the "I" to be ever more cunning and manipulative and powerful and influential than before.

We join organizations to meet like minded individuals, political, financial, religious, etc. We marry, and have children because we need to feel loved and belong to a family group. We need to perpetuate our own species, and our own consciousness, the "I". We desire immortality through having and raising offspring to carry on for us. We are drawn towards various religions, for the same reason, because we fear death and want to live on forever. The "I" for which we have spent countless hours developing and perfecting, does not want to let go. There is so much vested in this process, it wants to continue forever. Do you see this? Think it over carefully and you will see the beauty of this whole process. You will come to understand how all of this works.

I would like to propose you try a little exercise. Over the next week, watch and pay attention to your actions very carefully. Pay attention to what motivates you towards certain actions. Pay attention to your likes and dislikes, these are the things that motivate you the most. Then list 5 specific instances where you attempted to control your environment to attain what you wanted, or to avoid something that caused you pain or discomfort. Notice both the causes and the effects of your action. Did you really solve anything? Or did you just replace one problem with another problem? Did your actions lead to conflict or some kind of injustice or further displeasure?

To do this exercise correctly you must be very honest with yourself. The "I" may feel threatened by this invasion of privacy. You have to be very observant, and attempt to see things clearly so that you may understand why you acted the way you did. Don't allow fear and prejudice, etc. to make you observe in a superficial manner. Really deeply observe, absorb, and accept everything you find. This is you. This is your truth. This is your discovery of intelligence.

It should be fairly obvious that we can never hope to understand others, or our actions in relationship to the environment, if we don't first take the time to understand ourselves. So if you are at all serious about being happy and content, and attaining the future that you've always wanted and desired, then I suggest that you take this exercise very seriously. This is the true process of yoga and meditation in action. We hope to gain a better understanding of ourselves and others through the practice of yoga and meditation. This is the legacy of Yoga and Meditation!

About the Author

For over 35 years I have researched and practiced both the physical and mental aspects of Yoga and Meditation. While these methods certainly have been proven to work, there is a better solution to get your ideal abs.

Male yoga exercises for abs not only target the stomach region, but they increase flexibility as well. For centuries, people wanting to increase their posture, strength and overall physical condition have relied on yoga. Yoga will also help you balance your mind, body and spirit through a series of physical exercises.

All of these male yoga exercises for abs will elongate your abdominal muscles to create the lean, tight middle that you are after. Practicing these yoga poses regularly will sculpt your abs and increase your muscle tone all over your body. Talk about getting a package deal!

Crunches are definitely the most popular non-yoga method to sculpt abs. But this yoga take on the classic crunch will definitely increase your muscle tone. Lie on your back and bring your knees slowly to your chest. Then raise your legs with your feet flexed toward the ceiling. Concentrate on using your ab muscles to guide your legs down toward your chest again. Stop if you feel your back arching, and try to regain control of your legs. Build up to doing 10 repetitions in a row.

The following standing male yoga exercises for abs will lengthen your body and improve posture, in addition to defining your middle area.

Perform the Mountain Tilt from a standing position with both arms and your sides and your feet distanced hip-width apart. First, raise your left arm above your head and point your fingers upwards. Bend sideways at the waist and extend up and out toward your right. Hold this posture for a few seconds, return to your starting pose and repeat on the right side. Do both sides 3 to 5 times to begin with.

The Triangle pose, a popular male yoga exercise for abs, begins with your feet distanced about 3-feet apart. Turn your left foot out 90 degrees and keep your right foot pointing directly forward. Extend your arms out on either side of you at shoulder length. Then slowly bend to your right at your waist, and keep your chest facing forward. Place your right hand on your shin and point your left hand up to the sky. It is only recently that binaural beats have been used to create the same effect.

Meditation is believed to be a way of accessing our own inner minds to develop a connection with a Higher Power by many religions and spiritual teachers. But, it is not only used for religious or spiritual purposes.

Meditation may be a great way of discovering our spiritual nature and answering many of our internal questions but it has also been found to be a great physical healer. Scientific experiments have discovered that people who meditate live longer in better health, recover faster from illness and have better immune systems!

Because meditation can be used as a way of stilling the mind it has become extremely popular as a self improvement tool. Its ability to reduce stress has had a profound effect on many thousands of people and helped them to overcome illnesses, recovery faster after surgery and deal with deep-seated psychological issues.

As you can see learning meditation would have enormous benefits. However, there is one small problem! It takes decades to perfect it!

It has been known for some time that people who enter deep states of meditation exhibit very specific brainwave states. It is because of this knowledge and the discovery of how sound affects the brain that modern science was able to create binaural beats that could produce the same results.

As it has become more and more popular in the West, and due to our hectic fast-paced lifestyles science has come up with the answer to learning meditation that makes it impossible to fail. Anyone can now enter an immediate deep meditative state through Binaural Beats.

Binaural beats enter the scientific consciousness in 1839 when they were first discovered by Wilhelm Dove and then again in 1973 when Gerald Oster wrote an article in Scientific American about their affects on the brain and ability to create specific brainwaves.

Due to Oster's work and ongoing research we now have access to binaural beats recordings that can create states of meditation in just a few minutes.

To use sound for creating deep states of meditation it is necessary to have two tones that are different only in frequency. When these sounds are merged they create binaural beats in the brain. Let me explain.

These sounds are then used to create binaural beats in a very unique way. By sending one sound to one ear and the other sound to the other ear the brain creates a beat type effect to be heard. The illusion of hearing a beat that does not really exist has an amazing affect on the brain. These binaural beats create brainwaves that are the same frequency as the frequency difference between the two sounds.

This is how binaural beats can be used to create the very same state as a person who can enter deep states of meditation.

Even though using binaural beats will guarantee you succeefully enter deep states of meditation you may want to try it using a more traditional approach.

Although we use the word meditation to describe the state there are many different disciplines of meditation from chanting to breathing.

As we live in the 21st Century it seems only fitting that we use a 21st Century means of accessing the state of meditation. However, if you wish to experiment with this art right now you can do it by first relaxing, then closing your eyes and merely contemplating a particular problem in your life. As you begin to dissect this problem ask yourself questions and ask questions about the answers you are getting until you feel satisfied.

Meditation is like anything else in life - you can read about all you like but until you experience it, it is just theory. Try it for yourself. Get some binaural beats and start to experience the benefits of this ancient art with a new high-tech tool.

About the Author

Michael is a university graduate with over 23 years expereience in personal development and hypnosis.

Meditation: Fact or Myth

Meditation: Fact or Myth by Curt Sterling

For any man who has never meditated before, he may be wondering why there is such a hype concerning meditation for men. Meditation is a conscious way of calming your mind and body and reaching into your mind to allow whatever thoughts you wish to surface. For some men, it helps to comfort him if he has had a particularly stressful day to where he can then calm down before he addresses his afternoon or evening. For other men, it is about reaching deep into themselves and calling forth the energy they need to complete whatever task they need to complete whether it is for work, exercising, family, etc. However, some men question whether meditation can help them. Meditation is many things and it has been shown to help a man's health in many ways. However, it does not directly affect a man's health and it has been shown it is up to the man or not whether he receives positive results, which are encouraging him to continue meditation. To some men, meditation is a ridiculous notion and this is their right to perceive it as such as meditation is not for everyone. Yet it is important to decide whether meditation can help you based on its facts and not its myths. Meditation is not a form of prayer or a type of worship. It was created to help a man pause for a moment to reflect on either something he had just done or was about to do. Meditation was first widely circulated for men to reflect on life and their beliefs, but later also about combat. Men had to train with weapons and fight, sometimes on a daily basis. Meditation helped them to come to terms with what they were doing and to be able to make choices in the future, which were based on logic and not emotions. For men and today's health, meditation represents a way for them to address their health and pause in a fast-paced world where it seems as if some individuals never stop. While for some individuals meditation has become a form of prayer, this was not what it was originally meant to be. Men do not have to choose meditation for their health but it can help a man live a better life and a more serene one, especially if his life has become very chaotic.

About the Author

Curt Sterling is a health expert specializing in pharmaceutical research, men's health and other health topics, such as online pharmacy and buy viagra online information.

Different Kinds Of Medications In China

Different Kinds Of Medications In China by Jenna Sawin

Sir Winston Churchill once said that he thought he was illegal about a quarter of the time. If somebody as illustrious as Sir Winston Churchill thought that his powers of judgement were so mistrust, how can any of the balance of us feel assured in relying on our own? In the present Western world, since science took over from belief as the decisive judge between sincerity and fantasy, we have become accustomed to placing complete authority in the conclusions we come to with our powers of deduction and to disregard our inkling as unreliable. However, there is a grueling with this contact, as the conclusions we come to rely on our assumptions and on our deductive powers, both of which may be flawed and so affect us, like Sir Winston, to make mistakes.
Some troubles are also just so thorny that it is awfully hard to come to a balanced judgement based on dispense and reasoning. The subconscious care, however, does not rely on reason or leading our conscious assumptions, so perhaps we should try listening to it sometimes. This is one of the purposes behind vipassana (insight) meditation, that if we ignore conscious judgment and feelings for long enough then the subconscious has the opening to be heard and to rumor feeling in our inner ears.

Ignoring the conscious oppose is a far from cool mission, as like a chattering monkey it constantly throws fears, needs and fears at us. Annapanasati (mindfulness with breathing) is an implementation of vipassana, where the meditator slows the tributary of conscious view and feelings by concentrating as hard as promising on the sensation of air affecting in and out of the nose. It is not a breathing drawback where you try to breathe in a better way (though it will also achieve that), what it primarily achieves is that after a time (for some people an honestly long time) you will depart to be able to glue fewer to the judgment and feelings that appear - they become just feelings and feelings, not 'my' judgment and feelings.

When a thought or feeling arises, recognise that it has arisen and then go back to probing the breath. The idea is not to push thoughts away but to allocate them to depart of their own accord, which you achieve by not bountiful them, the much-magnified capacity you mostly do by attaching to them as 'extract'. By attaching to them excluding the meditator is able to wave them goodbye more certainly. Eventually intervals will institute to appear between the thoughts and feelings, which are the spaces where insight can appear. In at immediate you will just know, with extensive certainty, the answer for a problem you may not even have known you had.

Thai people are very muscular contenders for being the happiest people on the globe. Buddhists monks consider that the crude mess of creature beings is contentment despite the tribulations of the vale of sorrow in which we live. Using vipassana and annapanasati, the causes for discontentment are practical and allowed to droop. , I'm tempted to take these monks' practices seriously as, despite what to most people would appear like awfully boring and severe lives, they so regularly look to be so deliriously glad. They set a shining example of contentment through non-attachment to impermanent phenomena - those thoughts, feelings, relationships and possessions which come and go in life. This leadership is extremely beneficial to the relax of the community and justifies the reverence in which the monks are held and the tangible espouse which they sense.

It is possibly no coincidence that Thailand is a mostly Buddhist country and that Thai people are very spicy contenders for being the happiest people on the globe. The rival countries for the distinction of being the happiest places, in this source's experience, are the Buddhist Himalayan countries. Meditation encourages people to let their fears and qualms occur, to face them and then to let go of them. The Thais' amazing ability not to fret is maybe at slightest in part a consequence of this.

Many Westerners will already be informed that they are happiest when forgetting themselves through concentration, but often suppose that in order to be valuable the object of their concentration must be something exciting like an adventure sport in a external country. How fortunate the Buddhists are, after they have academic to get the same happiness just from concentrating on the breath untaken in and out of their noses, which are forever there, are always unfailing and which also don't involve exhausting and dear aircraft flights to grasp. To burrow into the subconscious can for some people be a difficult direction. Suppressed feelings and subdued actions can occur or be remembered, sometimes extremely painfully. It is recommended that everybody seeking to try out meditation enlists the guidance and bolster of the people who have been doing it for a very long time, the Buddhists. It is not necessary to subscribe to Buddhist ethics and after-life beliefs to promote from this faith's techniques for increasing contentment and generating insight.

While on the matter of Buddhist after-life beliefs, I would like to inspect one of the many bags I've come across that show to my satisfaction that there is at least a suit for suggesting that we are reincarnated. In 1970 a German female insisted to her hypnotist that she was an 1880s physician running in the gynaecology department of Edinburgh infirmary, the plan of which she drew in fact. When she later visited this hospice for the first time and showed the workers her cartoon, she was told that it didn't attain the actual design. Persistently, she asked to see 1880's strategy for the hospital. The plan of these devices matched her diagram. The above is just one defense of many. They don't constitute one hundred percent signal, but to my brain people who reject to countenance them are not care open minds.

Anybody who is interested in this question is recommended to read about Edgar Cayce, a 19th century American healer and spiritual. It is hard to disbelieve the evidence that he could see peoples' former lives just by placing his hands on them. There is an alternative explanation for these phenomena. The philosopher Carl Jung held that humans have a usual joint consciousness, through which every persona has a link to everything ever experienced by every other part. A species memory. So maybe reincarnation doesn't certainly happen, maybe the reincarnation suitcases are manifestations of Jung's species memory.

Thai meditation opinion: people wishing to try meditation and who feel they are up to an abstinent ten-day flight are advised to listen Suan Mok.

About the Author
Visit the Facts About Asia website to learn about population of asia and rivers in asia.

The Life Changing Practice of Meditation

by Groshan Fabiola

Meditation is about more than just relaxing, breathing, clearing the mind and finding your "center." As longtime practitioners such as Christine Breeze know, there is much more to meditation than stepping out of time for a while to absolve the mind of overabundant complications. While it is true that relaxation and centering are important parts of meditation, people like Christine Breeze have spent years perfecting this art and have learned that there are so many other aspects and additional benefits that one may attain.

One of the most important benefits of meditation is stress relief, which by itself makes the practice worthwhile. Christine Breeze and other experts agree, however, that regular meditation also helps to improve the human immune system. There have even been scientific experiments done that show a correlation between meditation and an improved immune system. The improvements take time to materialize, though, so people who are new to the practice of meditation must be patient to see the resulting resiliency against any disease.

Another beneficial aspect of meditation is improved decision making abilities. Christine Breeze has seen how meditation helps improve the performance of her students and spiritual community members, for example. Meditation helps people to perform their best at school, work and every other aspect of life by giving them the tools to make good decisions. It also helps people to focus better, which is undoubtedly beneficial to academic and/or professional life.

Experts like Christine Breeze agree - you learn a lot about yourself spiritually with meditation. After practicing meditation for a prolonged period of time, many people also claim to have a more positive outlook on life. With a greater acceptance of yourself, enlightenment, wisdom, compassion, and ability to live in the present moment with a deeper relationship with your God, meditation practitioners can have a brighter future. And these are just a few of the benefits. Just ask someone like Christine Breeze; it is a life changing practice for so many.

About the Author

For more resources regarding Christine Breeze or even about Christine Breeze and especially about Christine Breeze please review these pages.

Yoga

Yoga by Joseph Andreula

Yoga is especially ideal for people that are overweight, elderly, pregnant, or all three. You don't even need to pay for a personal trainer or attend a yoga class either. Yoga is about learning and growing. If your practice has been primarily hatha/physically based, consider trying more meditation and/or breathing (pranayama) programs.
Yoga is a mind-body practice in complementary and alternative medicine (CAM) with origins in ancient Indian philosophy. The various styles of yoga that people use for health purposes typically combine physical postures, breathing techniques, and meditation or relaxation. Yoga is also described as a practice for the development of body, mind and spirit. The art of Yoga exists in India for over 5000 years. Yoga is best known as a type of exercise system that stretches and strengthens the body through various poses known as asanas. This makes meditation for beginners a difficult journey to begin. However, once you identify the goals you want to meet through meditation, and you have learned the basics, meditation is something that is very simple to do.

There are many forms of meditation, all of which beginners can do. These methods originate out of Asia, based upon the hundreds of different religions found there. Each religion tends to have many different types of meditation processes, which can make the initial selection of a meditation type difficult. There are hundreds of different types of Buddhist meditations, as an example. The important thing to remember when picking the best meditation for beginners is that the form of meditation you choose will probably be the same one you stay with. Beginners should not turn away from a type of meditation simply because it is more difficult to master.

The first thing that meditation beginners need to keep in mind is that the process of meditation should not be uncomfortable. In fact, for most types of meditation, comfort is the first thing you should be ensuring. It is much easier to meditate and relax when your body is not distracted by worldly discomforts. As you master meditation, you will learn to ignore your body and the discomforts it feels, but that is not an art that beginners are expected to have mastered from the start.

The second thing that meditation beginners need to do is make certain that they practice meditation on a daily basis. Meditation is only effective if you set aside the time and effort to do it. By the time you have thought about whether or not you wanted to meditate, you could already be halfway done your meditation exercises. As guided meditation sessions can last as few as three minutes, it is extremely simple to make the time.

Some forms of meditation for beginners can even be done while you are traveling. If you are not the driver of the vehicle, you can close your eyes and meditate. If you take public transit, you can ignore the world around you and focus your thoughts on meditation. As many meditation styles include mantras, it is typically easy for the experienced to meditate even in loud places.

Learning to meditate is easy. The hard part is taking the time to actually do it.

About the Author

Leslie Baxter is an expert on Meditation and Spirtuality. And people really respond when you're totally focused on just them.''

The pressures of the job say you shouldn't be satisfied where you are today. Healing using this Life-force Energy is called Pranic Therapy. This article is a continuation of the earlier article Pranic Therapy Part II.
There are 2 types of seekers in the Path Celestial, those who aspire for liberation and ordinary mundane seekers.

Liberation is defined as a yearning for Eternal Life and the first group has an intense yearning for the Life Divine. Conferred with changeless faith and indomitable will, they keep up relentless struggle and get glimpses of Transcendental Consciousness. They have the Goal of Self-Actualisation fixed in their minds & mental problems & physical ailments do not deter them.

But My mahatmas, those of noble souls, Who tread the Path Celestial, worship Me Unendingly they keep their yearning for Me ! ( The Song Celestial )

All the great mystics of all civilizations belonged to this group.

He still adheres to the high and difficult road That sole leads to Eternity's peaks!

But this group, unfortunately is a minority.

The majority of spiritual seekers belong to the second group. These people have true aspiration but it is either not intense enough or is not supported by a strong will to undergo prolonged inner struggles or to bear the resultant physical or mental reactions. Many of them do not have any hope of realising the Self in this life, & so they are unwilling to sacrifice health or peace of mind for such an elusive and distant goal. The outer instruments for mortal man are not fit to endure the severe rigours of this spiritual journey or face its subtle & and formidable dangers. Self Actualisation can only come from immense Grace Divine.

Ordinary mundane people find it difficult to make spiritual progress their sole concern in life although they may have committed themselves to it in a general way. For them, an integral scheme of life in which the considerations of health & secular values receive as much attention as spiritual orientation is what is needed. This present article is meant for such seekers.

The Self as the basis of all Love

Why do we collect wealth ? For whose sake is wealth loved ? It is for the sake of the Self. Why do we love our wife & children ? For whose sake is the wife & children loved? It is for the sake of the Self. Everything in the universe - husband, wife, children, everything - is loved for the sake of oneself. The Self, when known, everything is known. What do we mean by oneself here ? Vedanta speaks of two selves in man - a lower self and a higher Self. The lower self, regarded as the false self, is the sum total of one's instincts, drives & impulses. The higher Self refers to the pure Atman which is regarded as the true nature of man. Vedanta states that the lower self, if left uncontrolled, will act as one's own enemy, and, if purified & controlled, will act as one's own friend. When the lower self is purified by yogic techniques & attuned to the higher Self, self-hate disappears & love for the higher Self dawns.

He sees indeed who sees in all alike, The living lordly Self, Self supreme Imperishable amidst the perishing ( The Song Celestial )

When this divine love blossoms in one's bosom, one's attitude towards his body changes. He now begins to love his body as an instrument for the manifestation of the Divine Self. Vedic Scriptures speak of the body as " the temple of the His great transparent mirror, Self". As a matter of fact, Vedic temples are modelled after the pattern of the human organism.

Symbolism behind Vedic temples

Man has three bodies - physical, astral & causal. The outer wall of the Vedic temple represents the physical body of man. The inner wall represents the astral body and the innermost wall represents the Causal body. Deep within these three bodies is the Self, the Atman who is represented by the Deity ! The word temple is derived from the Latin word tempulum, a place where Law and Justice can be administered. The principle behind the temple, is Know Thyself !

Am I a god, then? Yes In these pure features I behold Creative Nature to soul unfold ( Goethe )

The body is given prime importance in Vedic ritualistic worship known as Puja. Apart from ritualistic worship, service is divine & regarded as a form of worship known as Yajna. Vedic Scriptures enjoin five types of service known as Pancha-Mahayajna; service to the gods, service to sages, service to manes, service to human beings, service to animals. The ancient Law-giver Manu has given the injunction to divinize the body through these five practices. (" Through the repeated practice of these five great yajnas, the human body gets divinized".)

"The human body is the greatest instrument for Self-Actualisation ", said the famous Sanskrit poet Kalidasa. Maintaining the divine status of the body is not easy.It should be kept as clean, healthy & we should not allow any kind of physical or mental indulgence to defile its sanctity & harmony. ("Chastity is the flowering in man " said Thoreau and continence has been prescribed for spiritual progress). That is to say, change in attitude towards the body brings with it a new responsibility for one's own health. Surprising indeed is the fact that many people think that restoring health and curing diseases are solely the responsibility of the medical profession. In the holistic health system, responsibility for falling ill & getting well both rest primarily with the patient. The doctor only assists in curing himself. As Albert Schweitzer said " All healing is Self-healing ".

Holistic medicine postulates that the responsibility for healthcare rests in the patient's hands because that is where the knowledge and control of the variables lie ( diet, stress, exercise, genetics, emotion & medication).

1. Knowledge of the Psychosomatic Machine

If the patient is aware of the disease and its aetiology, about his body's immune power and if he can bear physical pain temporarily, with a stoic calmness, he can avoid a lot of unnecessary medication.

In the Holistic Model, the cause of any disease is understood in terms of the whole person and not in terms of a particular organ or tissue. As Sir William Osler put it, it is more import to know the patient who has the disease than the disease of the patient. Plato remarked that " the treatment of the parts should not be attempted without treatment of the entirety" The one person who knows about the patient more than anybody else is the patient himself.

Compliments should go to Western Science which has discovered a lot of knowledge by research & which is the result of the painstaking labour of thousands of dedicated scientists for more than 200 years. This accumulated treasure is humanity's precious heritage and only charlatans will ignore or undervalue it. It is imperative that every educated person should have a basic knowledge of human anatomy & physiology, and also of Western psychology. However this research is analytical and incomplete.

A Holistic Model was developed by the Sages of India 2500 years ago.

The Five Levels of Being - The Yogic Model

These are the five concentric sheaths enveloping the Self, the Divine Spark in man !

1. Physical Sheath ( Annamaya Kosha ) 2. Vital Sheath ( Pranamaya Kosha ) 3. Mental Sheath ( Manomaya Kosha ) 4. Intellectual Sheath ( Vijnanamaya Kosha ) 5. Bliss Sheath ( Anandamaya Kosha )

Disease is the imbalance in any of the three lower sheaths of existence - physical, vital & mental.

The microcosm & the macrocosm are are in unbroken communion with each other & are structured on the same pattern. At the level of the physical sheath, food, water & oxygen enter the microcosm and Co2, waste products etc return to the macrocosm. This is true of other sheaths also. The individual cannot exist independent of the cosmos. The interdependence of the Microcosm & the Macrocosm is known in Classical Philosophy as the Bio-Cosmic tieup. If the exchange between the physical sheath and the physical world around it is defective, the body will become ill, and death will result if it is stopped altogether.

Please Feel Free To Vist Our Site http://learnmoreon.com/yoga/ To Know More About yoga exercises Regards learn More On

About the Author
http://learnmoreon.com/voip/

Yoga helps you lower blood pressure

Yoga helps you lower blood pressure by Kimberly Thomas - www.theskinnychic.com

Hypertension is a common disease nowadays, which, if it's not treated corectly can cause many damages to the other organs of the body. People who suffer from high blood pressure need to lower blood pressure in order to neutralize the effects of hypertension on their body.
Changing the life style and sometimes taking medicines is recommended for the people who need to lower blood pressure.

It is very helpful in the treatment of hypertension the yoga lifestyle, which can really help you lower blood pressure. Yoga exercises, called asanas, involve stretching and moving the body into various positions. During these exercises any tightness or tension observed in the body should be consciously relaxed. Yoga practice offers stress management techniques, which are essential to lower blood pressure. There are many yoga asanas, maybe hundreds or even thousands, but only certain asanas can help you lower blood pressure.

The most efficient for lowering blood pressure are the forward bends, which have a pacifying effect on the brain, the nervous system, the blood circulation to the brain, and they also help you reduce the stress. All these lower blood pressure. Furthermore, these asanas slow down the pulse rate, so they lower blood pressure.

They are also helpful to lower blood pressure the sitting asanas, such as Upavista Konasana, which remove the tension from the ribs and the intercostals muscles, and also help you breathe easily. Many hypertensives have difficulties in breathing and these asanas help them in this matter and they also lower blood pressure.

Other helpful asanas are the supine poses, like Supta Baddhakonasana, which relax the abdominal region and have a calming effect on the nerves, facts that lower blood pressure.

There are also recommended for those who need to lower blood pressure, the inversions, such as Halasana and Setubandha Sarvangasana, which have a refreshing effect on the nerves and reduce the sympathetic tone very fast. Usual practice of these asanas regularizes blood pressure, so lower blood pressure when it's abnormally high.

At these previous asanas you can add the pranayama and the Svanasana, which relax the mind and senses, and stabilize the blood pressure, so lower blood pressure in case of hypertension.

About the Author
Article writer for the www.theskinnychic.com

Back Pain and Mantras Part 1

Back Pain and Mantras Part 1 by Glen Wood - The Yoga Teacher

For back Pain this consists of simple yogic techniques that can be enjoyed by everyone, no matter his or her age or physical ability. It is a complete science that includes breath (pranayam), yoga postures (asanas), sound, chanting (mantra) and meditation. It is designed to provide you with the experience of your highest consciousness through the raising of your Kundalini. This is a wonderful yoga practice that is done with your eyes closed and at your own individual pace.
Even with back pain, if you were perfectly healthy, you would be able to do most yoga postures and exercises easily with minimal effort. Therefore as you begin learning the basic stretches, you will immediately discover where your deficiencies are. Do not let yourself be discouraged by this. Your body has adapted itself as perfectly as possible to all of the things you have done (or not done) with it over the course of your entire life up until now.

There are four key words you need to know relating to Yoga: asanas, pranayama, meditation, and mantra. Asanas are the exercises or poses yoga is known for and pranayama is the practice of breath control in conjunction with these exercises. Meditation (mind focus-back pain) is also practiced during yoga and may or may not include the use of a mantra (sound) or chant.

Puja is an ancient ritual practice of meditation and devotion. Showing reverence to the elemental energies of life and other aspects of the divine, through prayer, mantra, and ritual.

Recent medical studies have shown that a regular practice of yoga and meditation is effective at lowering levels of anxiety. Excessive anxiety can be alleviated through a slow, gentle yoga practice focusing on postures that calm the heart and the mind, balance the emotions, and release body tension. Pranayama (yogic breathing) and meditation will also be helpful to calm the mind and body, and to reduce stress and negative thinking.

Most people practicing yoga in the west practice asana yoga. Asana yoga is designed to cultivate the mind and body in a manner that is conducive to long periods of meditation. Physical strength and stamina are key components of asana yoga and will help with back pain.

A Yoga practice can be adapted to all fitness levels and body types and does not require fancy equipment, so the practice travels with you easily. The gentle postures, relaxation and breathing techniques benefit a broad range of health concerns and conditions. Simply taking a few minutes a day to unwind the body with some stretches, to breathe deeply and relax a bit can alleviate a long list of discomforts and complaints.

About the Author
Glen Wood - The Yoga Teacher, dedicated to unlocking the Real Secrets of Back, Neck and Shoulder Pain.

To help you further with your back, neck and shoulder pain you need to sign up for your FREE "Yoga and You" report at http://www.YogaTeachingwithGlen.com

Kundalini Yoga is Help of Your Health

Kundalini Yoga is Help of Your Health by Prabakar S

The transformational gifts of Kundalini Yoga are here for you to explore and adapt to your life. There is no other discipline quite like it. It works on your entire nervous and glandular system. It prepares the mind for optimal clarity and greater use. It enlivens your sense of awareness and delivers a vast influx of inner energy and creativity.
The word "Kundalini" means awareness and hidden potential of that awareness; it is the greatness of which you are capable. In the Yogic tradition Kundalini energy is portrayed as a coiled serpent, lying dormant at the base of the spine. To raise the Kundalini means to awaken and enliven this creative storehouse of our energetic system.

Kundalini Yoga is the original and most powerful of the yoga, all of which are beneficial. The Yoga Sutras say that what you can achieve in 12 years of Hatha Yoga, plus 6 years of Raj Yoga, plus 3 years of Mantra Yoga, plus 1 year of Laya Yoga can be accomplished in a single year of perfectly practised Kundalini Yoga. So it is known as the fastest form of Yoga practise and personal development.

It is designed for the active person with responsibilities in work, the family, and the world. It was maintained as a secret oral tradition for thousands of years, which protected the techniques from abuse, but this created an unnecessary image of mystery around techniques that are truly practical and systematic.

Kundalini Yoga can be practised by anyone if it is done gradually and according to the instructions. In 1969, an acknowledged master of Kundalini Yoga, Yogi Bhajan, recognised the need to disseminate the techniques. He codified and released the teachings. He began training teachers to share these precious technologies for human calibre in the United States and around the globe. Some try proven techniques like scientifically prepared diet plans and rigorous exercise agenda. Some try unconventional solutions like herbal teas and weight loss medicine. Some try new age approaches like yoga and pilates.

On the other hand, losing weight is concentrated on the sole purpose of the body. Only through this function can a person effectively find out the best way on how to loose weight and maintain the spanking form he will benefit from.

This function is identified as metabolism. Metabolism pertains to the speed of the body to burn down calories into usable energy. The more calories burned, the less calories will be left... calories which will otherwise build up into fats.

Ideal way on how to loose weight is about training the metabolism to perform its functions at a rapid pace. The faster one's metabolism is, the more calories the body will burn, after all. This is the explanation why some individuals who are very slim can't be able to increase their weight no matter how big their appetite is. They have fast metabolism.

This is the deal: an individual's metabolism speed is something that can be learned.

Abstention from eating should not be done when trying to lose weight. Abstention will only baffle the metabolism process of the individual because of the absence of substances that will be digested and burned down.

Missing out meals should not be considered, as well. Just like abstention, missing out meals will cause the individual's metabolism to be in frenzy. Furthermore, when an individual misses out a meal or two, she tends to overcompensate come the next meal, which will negate the effects of the meals she missed.

The most excellent method to teach your metabolism is through segregating your food into lesser portions, to be taken throughout the day. If you eat in a standard of 150 calories for your first meal, you can divide the meals and have three smaller mealsapiece. This way, it'll be simple for your routine to process the same, and it will be easier for your body to burn the smaller number of calories into usable energy.
Hope this short article has helped you, find out more on the best way on how to loose weight.

About the Author
Sham.S writes regularly about fitness related topics. It is said to take the form of a snake. As it is awakened, it is then moved from the spine all the way up to the brain, resulting to a magnificent state of euphoria and enlightenment. That's why at present, it is known to be the most competent type of yoga. Its practice includes meditation, the standard chants and poses in yoga, as well as the coordination of one's breath and movement. However, what makes this practice unique is that the stress is given on the breathing and chanting, and not on the poses alone. And its benefits for the yogis? A sense of unity and spiritual conversion.
Moreover, it was Yogi Bhajan who presented Kundalini yoga to the west in 1969. It is directed more on Pranayama and Mantra; and the revived Kundalini passes through the centers of counsciousness, or the Seven Chakras, in the human body. Each of these Chakras gives a particular gift and adventure when triggered.

For a full understanding of Kundalini yoga and the maneuver of the so-called "snake", you should also have a sufficient education on the nervous system, especially on the spinal cord. It is concluded that the Seven Chakras are located in this particular part of the human body.

But how does one start with Kundalini yoga? There are several ways. First, of course, is the preparation, assembly, and exercise of the mind; then one is free to seek the assistance of an expert in the field. Going back to the basics of Pranayama, Mantras, and Asanas can also be a good onset. You can also do it with the practice of Jnana, Bhakta, and Hatha yoga. However, do not forget that it can begin from the simplest steps such as benevolence and mental inquiry.

It is not advisable that one should go start with Kundalini yoga with the wrong steps. If one forcefully tries to awaken the Kundalini energy, it will definitely result to dangerous symptoms; because just like the genuine snakes, it strikes hard when provoked. That's why it should be handled in a professional manner. These are just some of the negative when the practice is done the wrong way:

-Stress & depression -Irregular breathing -Epilepsy -Mental confusion & immoral behavior -Headache or a heavy feeling in the head -Psychosis -Intensive mood swings

Kundalini yoga does not really require too much effort, since only the basic attitudes are needed - commitment, diligence, and determination to the practice. They say it is the mother of all styles of Yoga. Some yogis also consider it to be the most powerful type of yoga they ever got into. True enough, it brings paramount and worthy effects, but they can also be brutal when not delivered properly.

About the Author
Sarah Noelle Williams is an active member of ABC-of-Yoga. Traditionally there are nine forms of bhakti-yoga. Bhakti yoga is generally considered the easiest of the four general paths to liberation, or moksha (the others being Karma, Raja and Jnana Yoga), and especially so within the current age of Kali yuga (according to the Hindu cycle of time). In scriptures such as the Bhagavata Purana, bhakti is described as a perfectional stage in itself which surpasses even moksha as a level of spiritual realisation. Hindu movements in which bhakti yoga is the main practice are called bhakti movements.

Contents [hide]
1 Philosophy
1.1 The Bhagavad Gita
2 Branches
3 Notable proponents of Bhakti
4 See also
5 References
6 External links

[edit] Philosophy
Main article: Bhakti
Bhakti is the Sanskrit term that signifies a blissful, selfless and overwhelming love of God as the beloved Father, Mother, Child, Friend or whichever relationship or personal aspect of God that finds appeal in the devotee's heart. Bhakti incorporates a number of universal principles, also common in other world religions.

The 'Bhakti-rasamrita-sindhu' (written by Rupa Gosvami) gives the following as the nine primary activities of bhakti, with the instruction that by following all, or just one, of these activities perfectly the aspiring devotee can achieve pure love of God:

Hearing about the Lord - singing & chanting God's names (japa), hearing stories from scripture.
Glorifying the Lord - describing God's all-attractive features.
Remembering the Lord - internal meditation on the Lord's form, activities, names or personality.
Serving the lotus feet of the Lord - providing a form of physical service.
Worshiping the Lord - deity worship (puja) is a popular form of this within India.
Offering prayers to the Lord - any form of prayer offered to please God.
Serving the Lord - offering a service for Lord's pleasure, such as preaching activity.
Building a friendship with the Lord - having an internal, loving relationship with God.
Surrendering everything unto the Lord - surrendering one's thoughts, actions and deeds to God.
The scriptural source of these nine primary forms of bhakti is a verse in the Bhagavata Purana, spoken by Prahlada:

"Prahlāda Mahārāja said: Hearing and chanting about the transcendental holy name, form, qualities, paraphernalia and pastimes of Lord Viṣṇu, remembering them, serving the lotus feet of the Lord, offering the Lord respectful worship with sixteen types of paraphernalia, offering prayers to the Lord, becoming His servant, considering the Lord one's best friend, and surrendering everything unto Him (in other words, serving Him with the body, mind and words) — these nine processes are accepted as pure devotional service. One who has dedicated his life to the service of Kṛṣṇa through these nine methods should be understood to be the most learned person, for he has acquired complete knowledge."[1]

These nine principles of devotional service are described as helping the devotee remain constantly in touch with God. The processes of japa and internal meditation on the aspirant devotees's chosen deity form (ishta deva) are especially popular in most bhakti schools. Bhakti is a yoga path, in that its aim is a form of divine, loving union with the Supreme Lord. The exact form of the Lord, or type of union varies between the different schools, but the essence of each process is very similar.

[edit] The Bhagavad Gita
Main article: Bhagavad Gita
While it has an extensive list of philosophical and religious associations, the Bhagavad Gita is also seen as a cornerstone for Hindu Bhakti theism, especially within Vaishnavism. However, it has been interpreted by many as being a manual not limited just for devotees of Krishna. Whatever be the case, it is adamant, in Krishna's words, that love and innocent pure intention is the most powerful motive force in a devotee's spiritual life. It is a very succinct and comprehensive statement on the mindset of the Bhakta (loving devotee):

Engage your mind always in thinking of Me, become My devotee, offer obeisances to Me and worship Me. Being completely absorbed in Me, surely you will come to Me. (B-Gita 9.34)[2]

One can understand Me as I am, as the Supreme Personality of Godhead, only by devotional service. And when one is in full consciousness of Me by such devotion, he can enter into the kingdom of God. (B-Gita 18.55) [3]

[edit] Branches
Main article: Bhakti Movement

A large statue in Bangalore depicting Lord Shiva meditatingThe various bhakti movements are monotheistic in their aim, being primarily devoted to worship of either Vishnu, Krishna or Shiva as the Supreme Absolute or His personal energy, known as Shakti. These movements, which followed the establishment of the three Vedanta systems, rejuvenated Hinduism through their intense expression of faith and responsiveness to the emotional and philosophical needs of India, illustrated by Bharatanatyam, and can rightly be said to have affected the greatest wave of change in Hindu prayer and ritual since the advent of Adi Shankaracharya. There have been bhakti movements right through Indian history.

The philosophical schools changed the way people thought, but Bhakti was immediately accessible to all, calling to the instinctual emotion of love and redirecting it to the highest pursuit of Brahman and self-realization. In general a liberal movement, its denouncement of caste offered recourse for Hindus from the orthodox Brahaminical systems. Of course, however, Bhakti's message of tolerance and love was not often heeded by those ensconced in the societal construct of caste.

Altogether, bhakti resulted in a mass of devotional literature, music, dance and art that has enriched the world and gave India renewed spiritual impetus, one eschewing unnecessary ritual and artificial social boundaries.

For further information see the article on Bhakti movements.

[edit] Notable proponents of Bhakti
Narada Muni
The Alvars approx. 2nd century to 8th century
The Nayanars 5th century to 10 century
Adi Shankara 788 AD to 820 AD
Ramanujacharya 1017 AD to 1137 AD
Madhvacharya 1238 AD to 1317 AD
Jayadeva 12th century
Nimbarka 13th century
Chaitanya Mahaprabhu 1486 AD to 1533 AD
Tyāgarāja died 1847 AD
Paruthiyur Krishna Sastri 1855 AD to 1911 AD
Ramana Maharshi 1878 AD to 1950 AD
Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada 1896 AD to 1977 AD

[edit] See also
Narada Bhakti Sutra

[edit] References
^ Bhag-P 7.5.23-24
^ B-Gita 9.34
^ B-Gita 18.55

[edit] External links
Bhakti and Bhakti-yoga
History of Bhakti Yoga
Narada Bhakti Sutra
Bhakti Surpasses All Liberation (moksha)
[hide]v • d • eYoga
Classic Yogas Bhakti yoga · Karma Yoga · Jnana Yoga · Raja Yoga
Other Yogas Agni Yoga · Bharat yoga · Anahata Yoga · Anusara Yoga · Ashtanga Vinyasa Yoga · Bikram Yoga · Dream Yoga · Hatha yoga · Integral yoga · Iyengar Yoga · Kriya yoga · Kundalini yoga · Natya Yoga · Sahaja Yoga · Satyananda Yoga · Sivananda Yoga · Six yogas of Naropa (Tummo) · Surat Shabd Yoga · Viniyoga · Yantra Yoga · Yoga in Daily Life · Yoga Nidra
Texts Bhagavad Gita · Yoga Sutras · Hatha Yoga Pradipika · Gheranda Samhita · Shiva Samhita
Raja Yoga limbs Yama · Niyama · Asana · Pranayama · Pratyahara · (Dharana · Dhyana · Samadhi) · (Samyama)
Lists Yoga schools and their gurus · Hatha yoga postures
Related topics Ayurveda · Chakra · Mantra · Tantra · Vedanta · Yoga (alternative medicine) · Yoga as exercise · Nadi
Category

Retrieved from "http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bhakti_yoga"
Categories: Meditation | Religious behaviour and experience | Sanskrit words and phrases | Yoga styles

yoga not only for calm your mind and body, yoga can build muscle

yoga not only for calm your mind and body, yoga can build muscle by n.samadder

Yoga may not only be a stress buster but also a fat blaster, says new research presented at the American College of Sports Medicine's 2004 Conference.
In one of the few studies that have compared weight lifting with yoga, University of Pittsburgh researchers put 59 obese, inactive women, ages 25 to 55, on a low fat diet. Every one walked for 40 minutes 5 days a week; a third of the volunteers did additional strength-training exercise; and another third added a yoga routine 3 days a week. After 4 months, the yoga devotees dropped an average of 27 pounds; the strength trainers whittled away 23; and the walking -only group lost 20. Study author Kara Gallagher, PhD, an exercise physiologist, warns that the difference aren't big enough to conclude that yoga is better than dumbbells. But it appears to be soothing option with a surprising power to fend off excess pound. In short, if you are keen to achieve a healthier body and a more productive and positive outlook, yoga can help you. If this sounds sweat to you, you may like to read more.
* Overall Harmony

It is the ultimate goal of yoga to provide unity and harmony among the body, mind and spirit. In a way, this means you ultimately achieve oneness. This is the most important benefit of all. It is only through harmony that you can prevent one part of yourself from blocking the others. For example, your regular daily life will no longer be bothered by destructive thoughts or physical pain.

* Awareness

En route to harmony, yoga will teach you to become more aware. Sometimes, we experience pain, severe illness or damaging thoughts because we were unable to detect budding physical or emotional problems. Yoga will help you to detect if something is wrong or not right with you such as your posture or body alignment, for example.

* Taking Stress Away

The techniques in yoga can help relieve stress and tension in the mind and body. One is taught meditation, proper breathing, detachment from thoughts and feelings and concentration in the here and now. All these can help a person become calmer and develop a more positive perspective.

* Pain Management

One of the most celebrated benefits of yoga is the management of pain. This can be achieved through different means depending on your pain condition. Yoga in itself improves a person's physical strength and alignment, which is crucial in reducing some types of pain such as muscle or back pain. For more serious pain conditions, yoga induces overall relaxation and even the release of natural pain relievers in the body. Advanced yoga practitioners who have intense chronic pain can even learn to detach themselves or view their pain from a different perspective through yoga.

* Body Strength and Flexibility

Yoga can help you move and endure better. Those who practise yoga gain improved range of motions and the ability to hold out longer in daily activities. This benefit is especially important for those who are usually stuck in rigid office positions that restrict posture and movement.

* Healing of the Body

Yoga has been known to have an impact on a wide range of diseases and their symptoms. Generally, yoga helps improve overall circulation and organ function which results in a cleaner, more nourished system. In particular, yoga has been proven to be beneficial for those who suffer from arthritis, asthma, high blood pressure and diabetes. Yoga has even been known to help combat obesity and premature aging.

The benefits of yoga are just too many to be ignored. If you want to improve your body, health and outlook in life, you should consider learning yoga now. It is simply the best way to heal and harmonize your entire self.

About the Author
Now that you know about the numerous benefits of yoga, you probably feel like to get started. Jerard Jr.

Training to become a yoga teacher is exciting. People who become yoga teachers are generally those who have been practicing yoga for several years and have a basic understanding of the different aspects of yoga. Once you have completed your training, you may wonder what opportunities are available for you to begin teaching others the fine art of yoga.
A lot of this depends on your level of certification, if you have achieved certification, and what your personal goals are for teaching yoga. For instance, do you want to teach at a facility in your area? Are you willing to travel to find a teaching position? Or do you prefer to open your own facility and take ownership?

Certification Matters

When applying for a position as a yoga teacher at a facility such as a yoga studio, health club, college or retirement home, having certification is very valuable in landing your first job. Certification is not required in order to teach yoga in the U.S., but it proves that you know what you are doing and that you are trained teach yoga to others competently.

There are usually two levels of certification: a 200-hour and a 500-hour certification. You may teach yoga after you receive a 200-hour certification. Most teachers who want to advance their career as a yoga teacher will complete the 200-hour certification and progress to the 500-hour shortly thereafter.

Start Out Substituting

Sometimes the best way to break into yoga teaching is to become a substitute teacher first. If the facility where you attend classes will let you be a substitute teacher, jump at the chance. You might also find substitute gigs at local gyms, schools, health care centers and other places that offer yoga classes. Prove you teaching skills and knowledge while getting much-needed teaching time. It helps you become comfortable with teaching others on a regular basis. You may now put this facility down as a reference when ready to take on a permanent teaching position.

Opening Your Own Facility

Starting your own business may seem like risky business, and it can be. To ensure that you get students, you have to prove you have the qualifications to run your own studio. People will not flock to a new yoga studio without knowing they will receive proper training and care. Your best bet is to receive a certification through training, have references from past places you taught yoga instruction and a creative spirit that transcends your classes.

Becoming a Professional

You know that you have reached a pinnacle in your yoga teaching career when you want to take being a yoga teacher even further. One opportunity that exists for such individuals is training to become a yoga therapist. A yoga therapist not only holds certification as a yoga teacher, but also has a degree in traditional healthcare. Yoga therapy uses the body's own healing process, aided by ancient yoga practices, in health-challenged individuals.

Often times modern-day scientific techniques may be used in conjunction with yoga techniques to promote better healing. A yoga therapist earns a degree in Yoga Therapy. It generally takes two years or less to earn a diploma in this field. Yoga therapists may expect to find jobs at hospitals, healthcare facilities or operate their own yoga therapy business.

Copyright 2008 - Paul Jerard / Aura Publications

About the Author
Paul Jerard, E-RYT 500, is a co-owner and the director of Yoga teacher training at: Aura Wellness Center in, Attleboro, MA. Jerard Jr.

The effects of Yoga, on persons with diabetes, are extremely healthful, and sometimes, cause the unexpected. Be conscious of potential effects of yoga on diabetic students.
Diabetes has become a more prevalent disorder, over the last decade, than ever before. While many struggle to control their diabetes, sometimes, simply following the doctor's orders, are frustrating and not enough.

Many studies show that yoga postures impact fasting blood glucose levels, reducing them in some studies by as much as 50 milligrams per deciliter (or 50 points) in type II research subjects. In addition to this drop in blood sugar, there is an increase in nerve function.

Certain postures and movements stimulate the glands of the body and have the most profound impact. Asanas, the Yogic postures that induce relaxation, and certain breathing exercises, stimulate the pancreas. This is theorized to occur because of alternating contraction and release of the abdominal muscles; thus, the pancreas is stimulated. An increase in blood flow and oxygen to the organ increases efficiency.

The rotation of the body, as well as holding the position and stretching the body, in these positions, increases circulation. Poor circulation is a major side effect of diabetes and leads to long term complications. Increased circulation and oxygen to the body helps everything function better; and several glands within the endocrine system are vitalized. Yoga helps retain the elasticity of blood vessels and reduces high blood pressure, in some cases. Additionally, lethargy and depression are relieved by these effects on the body.

Practicing yoga, on a regular basis, helps diabetics increase nerve function and relieve the symptoms of sub-clinical neuropathy, as well as prevent some at the onset.

Meditation is an imperative part of yoga practice. Attaining a relaxed and concentrated mental state relieves stress and brings about a calming effect on the nervous system. High stress levels cause drastic changes in blood glucose levels in some diabetics, so learning to meditate effectively is a useful management method.

It's difficult for yoga to have much impact on type I diabetes, due to the fact that the body does not produce any insulin at all; therefore, stimulation of the endocrine system is not as effective. That does not mean there is no effect, but the impact of Yoga on type II diabetes is much more dramatic.

However, in studies, a decreased dosage was needed by many participants who were insulin- dependent. A study, comparing aerobic activity, found that direct stimulation of the pancreas, by yoga positions, were more effective in stimulating the endocrine system than more exertive activity.

These positive impacts are very encouraging; however, diabetic students must regularly monitor their glucose levels and take proper medication. It is likely that, after practicing yoga on a regular basis, the amount of the required medicine will decline.

Many diabetic students may not be aware of the potential decrease in their blood glucose levels. Educate them of this possibility and devote extra attention to their progress. Additionally, it is recommended that glucose tablets be kept on hand in case of a sudden drop in blood sugar.

Copyright 2008 - Paul Jerard / Aura Publications

About the Author
Paul Jerard, E-RYT 500, is a co-owner and the director of Yoga teacher training at: Aura Wellness Center in, Attleboro, MA. If you talk to any yoga instructor, you will hear the phrase, be in harmony with yourself and your environment. Yoga enforces the use of your total being; mind, body, and spirit. Through yoga exercises, you learn to stimulate the organs within your abdomen, improve the circulation throughout your body, and apply pressure upon the glandular areas of the body. All of this coupled with specific breathing and meditation techniques, gives you the ability to focus on your surroundings and feelings.
There are many aspects of yoga, but one of the good things is that yoga is an exercise regimen that anyone can practice. It does not matter how old you are, or young and it certainly does not matter if you are male, female, rich, poor, homemaker, or professional athlete. Yoga is an ancient practice that benefits every age and body. For women, practicing yoga can help in weight loss, muscle building, and toning. One excellent benefit of yoga is that women can even practice the art while pregnant. Yoga has been proven to prepare the muscles used most during birth and aid in breathing preparation for labor.

Men often think that yoga is only for women - this is just not true. Yoga works to reduce every day stresses, enable men to relax, and help increase levels of power, flexibility, and stamina. Seniors benefit from yoga as well, often times the art of yoga will aid in improvement of ones attention span and memory. Yes, yoga is even beneficial for children, the exercises aid in strengthening their growing bones, improves blood circulation and breathing methods, as well as being a relaxing and calming form of exercise.

Yoga has many benefits and aids in improving a wide variety of health issues. People who practice yoga improve their overall health and lifestyle while experiencing better memory, more stamina, and a sturdier balance. Yoga is a form of therapy for a variety of ailments and afflictions such as high blood pressure, circulation problems, arthritis, breathing disorders, and many others.

There are 6 basic types of yoga these are called Hatha, Bhakti, Raja, Jnana, Karma, and Tantra. We will touch on a few of these and explain what these areas involve.

Tantra involves using specific rituals to find the sacred aspect in every part of your life. Many people hear Tantra and think of sex, while this is a part of it, sex is not the entire aspect of this form of Yoga.

Jnana involves using the mind and focusing on intelligence, wisdom and gaining knowledge.

Karma is an area of yoga that believes that your actions are a direct reflection on things you have done in the past. It promotes doing selfless service and freeing yourself from a negative and selfish future.

As you can see, yoga touches a wide variety of health and life aspects.

** Attn Ezine editors / Site owners ** Feel free to reprint this article in its entirety in your ezine, blog, autoresponder, or on your site so long as you leave all links in place, do not modify the content, and include the below information unmodified.

Learn more about Yoga by visiting Yoga Is For Everyone.
Author: Robert Weiner writes articles about various family and health topics.
© - WPW Enterprises

About the Author
Robert Weiner writes articles about various family and health topics.

Yoga

Yoga Equipment You Need To Get Started by Franchis Adam

Yoga Equipment, Tools, and Props may not be required when practicing Yoga but they have always been useful aids to practitioners. Take note that it is essential to feel relaxed and comfortable when doing the poses

The most commonly used and most easily recognized piece of yoga exercise equipment is a yoga mat. Of course, there are many other types of equipment that exist, including blocks, bolsters, straps, grips, inversion slings, and more.

Yoga has been called one of the fastest growing sports. However, it is non-competitive and each individual "player" works at his or her personal level--increasing strength as they continue

Basic yoga equipment comprises of equipment like mats, blankets and eye bags. Then the second type of yoga equipment that includes supportive tools like belts, blocks and bolsters and even specialized tools that provide support for the designs they were designed for.

Your yoga mat can either be a large thick towel or rug, or a special yoga mat that is designed by different companies and sold in sports shops. The majority of yoga mats that are used are made from cotton or polyester latex. There are more expensive mats and less expensive ones, so you have to search around for the quality and type you want to invest in. Foam Block: Foam blocks are used for beginners to extend their reach. Foam blocks should be dense enough to support your full weight.

Yoga Belt: Made of cotton or nylon, these wide belts help support and align your back and also to extend your grasp. They really aid in the stretching of your muscles especially the hamstrings

Blocks: Like blankets, blocks are props to make yourself more comfortable and improve your alignment. Blocks are great for standing poses in which your hand doesn't reach the floor.

Straps: Straps are particularly useful for bound poses if your hands do not reach each other, and for poses where you need to hold onto your feet but cannot reach them.

Another piece of yoga equipment you may want to consider is a book or DVD for beginning yoga students to walk you through the different exercises. Even if you are taking a yoga class, it can be nice to have a reference at home in case you have questions or aren't clear on how to assume a particular posture.

Serious yogis may want to invest in the following yoga equipment:

* An inversion sling is a specialized piece of yoga equipment that helps to relieve back pain by facilitating low back muscle stretching and providing additional spinal traction. Slings can also be used to stretch shoulder, chest, and groin muscles. * Yoga ropes are wall-mounted devices that help you develop strength and flexibility. They assist in the practice of backbends or forward bends, make it easier to stretch your shoulder muscles, and help to create spinal traction.

About the Author
Read out Yoga. Today our children prefer T.V. over their friends and play, merely a reflection of their parents who also somewhere prefer T.V. over socializing or even over spending time with their children (if they spend some time surely some running around will help burn some calories). These are only a few factors, which have resulted in increasing amount of people with the problem of excess weight or obesity. The practice of yoga makes the body strong and flexible and helps to improve the overall function of the digestive, respiratory, circulatory and hormonal systems. Yoga assists us in releasing mental stress bringing clarity and peace of mind. Yoga opens a door into your heart and helps you to practice self-love and self-acceptance so that you become emotionally stable. But this only the beginning of a life-long journey towards your core, the realization of your true, essential self, the ultimate aim of yoga. Yoga has helped me to lose a substantial amount of weight. In my experience, when you remember who you are and align yourself with what is truly important to you, you will return to your true nature of health and happiness and your body will return to it's perfect weight.

Taking deep breath in yoga is very useful to enhance the oxygen intake to the body cells containing the fat cells in body. Other yoga asanas like tree pose, sun salute, triangle pose, locust pose, camel pose, wind releasing pose, cat pose, angle pose, Hero pose II and I, aeroplane pose are also useful to reduce body weight.

Why, then, don't more people practice yoga.

People think of yoga as being passive and mystical and not relating to to their lives. Yoga improves both the physical body and the mind. It's widely practiced in Eastern countries but not so in the West. Only 2% of the American adult population practice yoga.

Obesity and Yoga

* Yoga has considered all aspects of Obesity (physical, emotional and mental) * Regular practice of Yoga and controlled life style reduces obesity (weight is reduced). * Yoga makes human being agile, efficient and slim. * Yoga is suitable for people in any age group.

Kundalini, which was introduced to this country in 1969 by Yogi Bhajan, is more active, combining various modes of breathing, movement and meditation. It is based on the idea that body energy that's coiled below the base of the spine can be tapped so that it travels upward through different energy centers or chakras until it reaches the head. At this point one arrives at one's highest potential.

Some of us have a habit of eating between the meals. Here also Yogic practices come handy. One can take the help of Yogic aids when feeling tempted in between the meals. In such situations one may intentionally turn to Yoga rather than looking for some snacks. The knowledge and power derived from Yoga also makes us aware of problems like obesity which may prevent the individual from overeating. Such is the magic and charisma of Yoga that you tend to attain a balanced weight i.e. if your weight is normal, it will remain the same where as in case of underweight, you will gain weight. Yoga for weight loss can also be used in another way even if you don't have an eating disorder. It can tune your mind and body to be in complete synchrony. Even if you are otherwise completely healthy, yoga for weight loss and overall balance of your body and mind can still obviously be a good thing.

About the Author
Read out Yoga. Lift by bending your knees, not your back. Keep your back straight and your head down and lined up with your back.

Keep the object close to your body, dividing the weight evenly throughout your body as you lift. Bikram yoga is often referred to as hot yoga as it is practiced in a room heated to 105 degrees with a humidity of 50%.

The origin of this type of yoga is spiritually derived from Hinduism and regionally from Yoga College of India. Bikram yoga consists of 26 asanas or postures and two breathing exercises.

The word asana translates to the word "seat" which refers to the spirit in relation to the divine. Asanas are intended to lead back to sitting in meditation. Asanas are meant to improve your muscle flexibility and strength.

These moves, called asanas, are supposed to be practiced together with pranayama, or slow breath work for maximum benefit. Breathing should be through the nose and natural. To receive maximum benefit from practicing asanas, all tension and tightness in the body should consciously be let go.

Some of the benefits of Bikram Yoga:

* Works every organ, gland, nerve, tendon, ligament and muscle in the whole body every Bikram Yoga session * Expands your capacity to breathe deeply and fully * Prevents injury and may prevent or improve chronic illness * Promotes better sleep, you may even need to sleep less * Fabulous body toning effects * Weight loss or gain depending on your body's needs * Improvement in posture and body awareness * Diminishes the effects of stress *Increases balance, coordination, focus and discipline *Clears your mind *Calms your soul

ikram had a terrible accident at the age of seventeen when he injured his knees during the course of weight-lifting. It was thought that he would not be able to walk again. But Bikram was not the one to take things lying down as he knew the virtues of Yoga. Having full faith in the healing power of Yoga Bikram went to Ghosh's school.

During some of the postures, I was keenly aware of my need to improve my balance and my sense of my physical position in space. For ongoing achievement of balance, I have been practicing the art of yoga via an instructional DVD in my home.

Particularly useful to me, in addition to the improvement of balance is the yoga reminds me to slow down and relax the tension in my body. The concept of the heated room in Bikram yoga is to diminish the risk of injuries and to allow you to go deeper into each posture.

Hot Yoga Tips and Cautions

It is essential to have your own yoga mat and towel when doing Hot Yoga since you will be sweating so much.
